Three Morris Nichols Attorneys Named 2010 Lawyers of the Year by The Best Lawyers in America

Wilmington, DE – November 30, 2009 – Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP lawyers A. Gilchrist Sparks, III, William H. Sudell, Jr. and Kenneth J. Nachbar have been named 2010 Delaware Lawyers of the Year by the Best Lawyers in America Guide.  The firm’s lawyers received three of the six honors recognizing Delaware’s elite legal counsel.  Morris Nichols is the only Delaware law firm to have more than one attorney named 2010 Lawyer of the Year.

Gil Sparks, a partner in Morris Nichols’ Corporate and Business Litigation and Corporate Law Counseling Groups, was named as Best Lawyers’ 2010 Delaware Lawyer of the Year in Mergers & Acquisitions Law.  This follows Gil’s recognition as the 2009 Delaware Lawyer of the Year in Corporate Law.  Bill Sudell, of counsel in Morris Nichols’ Business Reorganization and Restructuring Group and Corporate and Business Litigation Group, was named as Best Lawyers’ 2010 Delaware Lawyer of the Year in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law.  Ken Nachbar, a partner in the Corporate and Business Litigation Group, was named as Best Lawyers’ 2010 Delaware Lawyer of the Year in Bet-the-Company Litigation.

Gil Sparks’ legal career spans four decades and has focused on litigation and counseling arising from mergers and acquisitions and disputes relating to the governance of Delaware corporations.  Chambers USA has described him as the “dean of the [Chancery] bar.”

Bill Sudell has, during his 38-year career, represented debtors and creditors' committees, as well as secured and unsecured creditors, in many of the major corporate bankruptcy cases in the District of Delaware, including TWA, Continental Airlines, Owens Corning and Sea Containers Limited.  He is the only Delaware bankruptcy/restructuring attorney recognized as a Senior Statesman by Chambers USA, which describes him as “one of the great Wilmington practitioners.”

Ken Nachbar has concentrated on litigation arising from mergers and acquisitions and disputes relating to Delaware corporations, and advising corporate boards of directors and special committees with respect to transactional and litigation issues for nearly 30 years.  He garnered national attention recently from his representation of the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and the NCAA when he obtained a favorable ruling from the Third Circuit Court of Appeals preventing Delaware’s plan to offer single-game sports betting.

Best Lawyers designates “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities, with only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”  Selection is determined by particularly high ratings received from Best Lawyers’ peer-review survey of more than 24,000 attorneys nationwide.
