Morris Nichols Partner, Derek C. Abbott Elected to ABI's Board of Directors

Wilmington, DE (April 28, 2014) - The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announced that Derek C. Abbott of Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP has been elected to ABI’s Board of Directors. An ABI member since 1998 Abbott has been a speaker, a member of ABI’s Business Reorganization Committee and assisted in the planning of various conferences and educational panels. He will serve a term of three years on the 60-member ABI Board of Directors.

Abbott is a Partner in the Business Reorganization and Restructuring Group at Morris Nichols in Wilmington.  He has acted domestically for many companies involved in debt restructuring and turnaround in several high-profile insolvencies, including Nortel Networks, Overseas Shipholding Group, Hancock Fabrics, Oakwood Homes, and Hollinger Inc.  Abbott is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and The University of North Carolina School of Law. He is a recipient of the Caleb R. Layton III Service Award, given by the judges of the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Delaware to an attorney who personifies the qualities of a federal practitioner: legal acumen, professional decorum, and public service.
