Michael Houghton Elected President of The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws

Wilmington, DE (July 13, 2011) - Morris Nichols banking, regulatory and commercial law counseling partner and Best Lawyers 2009 Delaware Banking Lawyer of the Year Michael Houghton has been elected President of The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (Uniform Law Commission (ULC)).  The two-year appointment was made at the organization’s 119th Annual Meeting in Vail, Colorado.

The ULC is the organization through which over 350 Uniform Law Commissioners that have been appointed by states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to research, draft and promote enactment of uniform state laws.  Since 1892, the ULC has promulgated more than 200 acts, including the Uniform Commercial Code, the Uniform Probate Code, the Uniform Partnership Act, the Uniform Securities Act, the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act, and the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act.

Mike was first appointed to the ULC from Delaware in 1995.  Since then, the drafting committees that he has served on have produced the Uniform Limited Liability Company Act, the Revised Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Article 9, and the Revised UCC Articles 3 and 4.  He is a former Chair of the ULC Legislative Committee, a former Chair of the ULC Scope and Program Committee and is a past ULC Vice President.  Mike just completed a two-year term as Chair of the ULC Executive Committee, the governing body of the ULC, and the committee responsible for implementing the policies adopted by the ULC at its meetings.
