( Wilmington, DE, January 2006) – Morris Nichols Arsht & Tunnell attorney A. Gilchrist Sparks III has been selected as one of the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, a list of the top 500 U.S. lawyers ranked by clients and peers.

Of the more than 15,000 nominations, only 500 attorneys were selected after an exhaustive independent research and verification process.  The list is compiled after thousands of interviews with corporate attorneys, litigators, judges, in-house counsel, prosecutors, law school professors, pro-bono practitioners, law firm managers, legal recruiters and clients.

Mr. Sparks was noted “as a touted corporate attorney practicing in Delaware, the state where many of the nation’s largest corporations are registered. He has had a hand in a great number of the country’s corporate takeovers.”  Further, the review states that “Mr. Sparks was instrumental in the passage of Delaware’s anti-takeover law and has since handled the constitutional defenses in two cases challenging it.” The review also mentions Mr. Sparks’ role in the passage of a 1986 law to limit director liability, and his successful defense of Unocal against an unsolicited offer by Mesa Petroleum, considered a landmark case that created guidelines for takeover battles.
