Susan Wood Waesco Unplugged

Raised in Wilmington, Susan Wood Waesco wanted a fresh start in a new city after earning her law degree.  With family in the Midwest, she accepted an offer at the Chicago headquarters of a prestigious international law firm.  “The big city, big firm experience was wonderful,” she says.

But three years later, an event occurred that changed her life and gave her insight into what was really important to her.

“I was involved in a major car accident in Michigan,” she says, “and was facing several months of rehabilitation.  It definitely made me think long and hard about what matters most to me.”  Ultimately, Susan decided to return to Delaware.  “After working and living in a big city, I wanted to relocate to a place that was more manageable,” she says.

There were many surprises waiting for her.  The area had changed dramatically, adding new restaurants, upscale shops, and numerous entertainment venues.  But she took a lot of comfort in the fact that the familiar haunts known only to insiders like her were still intact.  In addition, not only did she find her future husband in Delaware, but she also found a position at Morris Nichols where she had been a summer associate after her first year of law school.

“Everyone at Morris Nichols excels, and we do excellent work,” she states.  “But it’s nice to know that even at this level of practice, it’s not just all about the work."
